This Dragon fruit Smoothie Bowl is a beautiful, quick, and easy tropical breakfast recipe! Dragon fruit, also known as pitaya, is nutrient dense food packed with antioxidants, low calories making it a great option for vegan and paleo diets. Made with just 3 ingredients, dragon fruit, mango, and coconut water, add your favorite toppings and enjoy!
Can you tell by my choice of recipe today that my mind is in the tropics? I certainly wish I was in Hawaii but since that’s not happening, I’m bringing a little of Hawaii home. I’m in love with this smoothie bowl. Not just because it is so full of nutrients and is extremely healthy for you, but because it looks beautiful. The smoothie is so creamy and thick, I almost felt like I was eating a sorbet! YUM!
I chose to keep the smoothie ingredients simple and let the tropical flavors shine. Dragon fruit naturally doesn’t have much flavor. But it is packed with nutrients! Aside from the rich antioxidants, it is also filled with:
- Magnesium
- Vitamin A
- Vitamin C
- Calcium
- Iron
- Fiber
If you’ve never had dragon fruit before, it usually comes in a pinkish-red to yellow skin. The flesh itself can vary in color from white to deep red and has black seeds. The flavor can be mild in taste and it’s easy for the dragon fruit to take on flavors of other foods it is combined with.
WHAT IS A DRAGON FRUIT SMOOTHIE BOWL MADE OF?
This bowl is made of only 3 ingredients as I wanted to keep it simple, flavorful, and healthy. Dragon fruit, mango, and coconut water. The key to getting that smooth creamy texture is to blend slow, and add the water as needed. Once your smoothie is ready, just add your favored toppings as you like. In keeping with the theme, I chose tropical fruits and nuts to top my bowl. You can also add granola or other nuts if you like.
- Kiwi
- Pineapple
- Coconut flakes
- White flesh Dragon fruit
- Macadamia Nuts
I honestly think you can’t go wrong with any of the toppings you choose. This smoothie bowl feels like I’m eating sorbet for breakfast and it honestly can’t get better than that.
