Cabbage Peas Shaak (Kobi Vatana nu Shaak)
Ingredients
- 3 c Cabbage, finely chopped
- 1/2 c Green peas
- 1 serrano pepper, chopped, remove seeds and ribs to make less spicy
- 1 tsp mustard seeds
- 1/4 tsp hing/asafoetida, skip to make gluten free
- 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
- 1/2 tsp red chilli powder
- 1/2 tsp garam masala powder
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1 Tbsp Olive Oil
Instructions
- Heat oil in a wide heavy bottom pan over medium-high heat.
- Once the oil is hot, add mustard seeds, asafoetida, and green chilies and let them crackle for 4-5 seconds.
- Add in the turmeric powder, red chilli powder and mix well.
- Add cabbage, peas, and salt, to the pan and mix well.
- Reduce the heat to low.
- Cover the pan with a lid and cook for 8-10 minutes until the cabbage is almost cooked, stirring a few times in between.
- Do not overcook. The cabbage must still have some crunch.
- If the shaak/sabzi has any liquid, then cook on high flame for 30-40 seconds until it is evaporated.
- Serve hot with roti, naan, or rice.
